Places I Love Online

Slicing Up Eyeballs

Great site for information on a host of 80s college rock music (what I would term Indie). Named after a lyric by Pixies as well, that’s never a bad thing is it!

The site publishes news items daily about new album releases, reissues, box sets, tours, reunions and other activity by ’80s college rock bands, their spinoffs and their individual members, as well as video clips both new and archival, and streaming and downloadable audio.  The site relaunched in February this year.

….Hang The DJ

We share a similar inspiration for our names. The Smiths song Panic. A great music blog that is regularly updated with news, reviews and articles about old school indie/college rock, shoegaze, psych, and darkwave.

Strangeways Radio

A great music blog/portal that started out as a radio show/podcast but is now a wonderful resource for new music across the web. The site name may well be another reference to The Smiths! The site covers synthpop, dark wave, indie, shoegaze, trip hop, electronica, dream pop and more.

Large Hearted Boy

Have been a long-term reader (I was living and working in Bath when I first stumbled on the site so that must be 2005)  of a Large-Hearted Boy. One of my favourite places on the internet for discovering new/free music. It’s a brilliant place to spend time if you love music and books.

“largehearted boy is a literature and music website that explores that spot in the venn diagram where the two arts overlap.”

Aquarium Drunkard

Another great resource for music outside of the mainstream. The share my love of 1970s dub which can only be a good thing! The site covers a broad range of music and includes great mix tapes as well as reviews, news stories and links.
